In the classroom, our goal is to provide a safe and positive environment for our students.
We enable students to work at their own pace and encourage them to celebrate their achievements.
At BILC, we adapt the UK Curriculum to guide our teaching. We will primarily focus on the Core subjects: English, Maths and Science, and also adapt these into our international environment.
The Foundation Subjects, such as Art, Music and Physical Education will be incorporated into wide range of activities developed by the multidisciplinary team at BILC (See Activities). Activities will also include regular trips to the community that further develop life and social skills for our students.
We use a wide range of assessment methods that are appropriate in measuring our students’ academic and personal progress. For Core subjects, we use P-level and National Curriculum assessment tools to break down the level criteria into smaller, more achievable units. Such assessments also inform our teaching and planning of the Individual Education Plan. Our teaching staff also continuously use observation in the classroom to record every day successes and share with parents on a daily basis.
Positive Behaviour Support
When needed, we also use Positive Behaviour Support to help reduce challenging behaviour and to increase communication and socially significant behaviours. By using principles behind Applied Behavioural Analysis (ABA) we analyse the function of behaviours. We work closely with parents and families, and develop a Behaviour Plan that includes proactive and reactive strategies to support the child in managing their behaviours.
Individual Education Plan (IEP)
Students at BILC will receive an Individual Education Plan (IEP) which will be developed from the initial enrolment assessment and reviewed regularly by a multidisciplinary team and the parents. Parental involvement is central to the child’s individual education planning.
